‘Came back to our room last night after a lovely date night to find your email and what an amazing end to a lovely evening. We can’t thank you enough for capturing our day and some fantastic moments. You and Joy were amazing, we didn’t even know you where there half the time. We had a fantastic day and now have some great memories to re-live through your photos.’
I’d been looking forward to shooting Leean and John’s Gaynes Park wedding for quite a while now, and it was all I hoped it would be. Amazing weather, a super-relaxed couple, a stunning location, and a drag queen. What’s not to like?
It all started for Leean in Apple Loft Cottage, just a short walk away from where the ceremony was to take place. Once the girls were ready to go, the dress was on, and feet were slipped into the impossibly gorgeous shoes that Leean’s aunt had just ‘thrown together’, it was time for the entourage to head off for the orangery. I always love photographing an emotional scene and I really got a lump in my throat as I captured John trying to hold back the tears as Leean walked up the path with her Dad. It’s what it’s all about…
The ceremony itself was emotional/fun/heartfelt and to be able to shoot it in that light was perfect. Reception followed along with a few drinks, plenty of garden games, some tears, and a good chance for old friends and family to catch up. What followed when the party moved onto dinner was even better though…a properly sumptuous BBQ, games hosted by the MC, and very emotional speeches.
And then came the first dance…I’ve shot 400 weddings and I can’t say I’ve ever seen one interrupted by a jealous (and outraged) drag queen. Classic. Not a bad way to round off an amazing day!
Congratulations Leean and John, you guys were as awesome as the day itself.
